Isolated by Smithsonian field team in collaboration with personnel of YARU at New Haven, Conn., from serum of a normal adult (skull ossified) netted on 2 September 1966 at Bahig Village, Matruh Governate, United Arab Republic, Lat. 31° N, Long. 30° E. Irrigated garden oasis in semi-desert. Serum stored in sealed ampoule at -60°C until tested.

Undiluted serum inoculated 0.015 ml ic in 3-day-old mouse on 22 September 1966.

Virus reisolated. First virus of this type in laboratory.

Filterable through Millipore 220 nm but not 100 nm. No data. Sensitive to 1:500 sodium deoxycholate; control titer 10 LD per 0.02 ml, after-treatment titer 10.
