Isolated by Gh. Courtois at Provincial Medical Laboratory, Stanleyville (Kisangani) from serum of 13-year-old patient, collected by venipuncture on 6 March 1956 at the Provincial Medical Laboratory, Stanleyville, Lat. 0° 33′ N, Long. 25° 14′ E. Patient showed fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, backache, generalized joint pains, and photophobia.

Serum diluted in 0.75% bovine plasma albumin (Armour Factor V) in phosphate-buffer solution, pH 7.4. Inoculated ic and ip in 1-day-old mice on 6 March 1956.

Reisolation not tried. Patient not tested for development of homologous antibody.

Variable results found with filtration through Seitz EK and Gradocol. Size estimated at 70 to 140 nm by Millipore membrane filtration. No data.
