Isolated by R. H. Kokernot at Center for Zoonoses Research, University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois, from whole blood of well (Purple Martin) caught in mist net 27 July 1964 at Metropolis, Massac County, Illinois, Lat. 37° 11′ N, Long. 88° 45′ W. Brushy area between village and Ohio River. Blood stored on solid CO or in -70°C Revco until tested.

Whole blood diluted in 0.75% bovine albumin in phosphate-buffered saline. Inoculated 0.03 ml ic in 2- to 3-day-old mice on 10 August 1964.

Reisolation not tried.

Filterable through Millipore (APD not given). RNA virus as determined with 5-BdUR in Vero cell cultures using vaccinia and WEE as controls. Sensitive to 1:200 sodium deoxycholate; control titer 10, after-treatment titer 10.
