Isolated by Robert P. Scrivani at the School of Public Health, University of California, from a pool of 50 female adult collected on 24 and 25 July 1962 in a Dry Ice-baited trap at Kern County, California, Lat. 36° 30′ N, Long. 119° W. Farmyard. Specimens stored in a sealed glass tube at -65°F until tested.

Ground mosquito suspension inoculated into primary hamster kidney-cell cultures on 1 August 1962. Maintenance medium 0.5% lactalbumin hydrolysate in Earle's BSS with 3% calf serum and 4 mg glucose per ml. CPE shown.

Virus reisolated. No similar virus in laboratory.
