Abstract

This new text is written expressly for practioners in Tropical and developing countries. Its emphasis is on diseases that are of importance in the Tropics as well as those seen in any practice. The suggested treatment is sound and can be accomplished with modest equipment. It is handsomely printed and easily read, with a handbook type of format.

The chapters are didactic and remarkably complete with a list of “suggested further reading” instead of a bibliography at the end. Written by practioners of obvious experience, it would well be recommended for profitable reading to all practioners.

It contains unusual chapters on midwife training, clinic design, and an outline for maternity services in developing countries, blood-bank requirements, and recommended instruments for the repair of fistulae. The material is up-to-date, well-presented, and accomplishes its purpose.
