has gone through 15 revisions since the first edition was published in 1898 under the authorship of Sir Patrick Manson. For the 16th edition Dr. Philip Manson-Bahr, author of the last 10, enlisted the editorial assistance of Dr. Charles Wilcocks. A special chapter on ophthalmology in the tropics has been added by A. McKie Reid, and four other authors have assisted in revising the 15th edition, which was published in 1960. The format follows the traditional pattern of previous editions, with approximately one-third of the text devoted to Fevers. Other major disorders and syndromes common in the tropics and subtropics are covered in 11 additional sections. One chapter is devoted to insecticides, and there is a particularly useful table of drugs, which includes trade names under which the drugs are marketed in various countries, including Latin American. The appendix contains valuable seetions on medical protozoology, helminthology, and entomology, as well as a section on the microscopic examination of the blood and feces and a description of the fluorescent-antibody technique.
