Abstract

Summary

A slow method of administering sodium antimony dimercaptosuccinate was tried in 163 cases of haematobium bilharziasis in an effort to reduce side-effects. The drug was given over a period of 2½ weeks, the total amount being the same as tried previously in a short 5-day administration schedule.

The severity and number of side-effects were the same in both trials. However, the data suggest that the parasitologic rate of cure is reduced from 100% in the short schedule to 80% in the slow one.
