Abstract

Summary

A bacterium, isolated from laboratory water which had supported a population of the schistosome vector snail, , and capable of utilizing Bayluscide as the sole source of nitrogen, has been studied. The accumulated morphological, cultural, biochemical and physiological information indicate that this isolate belongs in the genus although it does not conform in all respects to any described species. The data also indicate the source, or habitat, of this microbial isolate to be the intestine of . The implications of this relationship to schistosomiasis control are discussed.
