Summary
Toxoplasma gondii was isolated from the salivary glands from 3 of 38 pigs having dye test titers of 1:16 or higher. Toxoplasmas were not isolated from the salivary glands of 53 pigs having dye test titers of less than 1:16.
The saliva from 8 naturally infected pigs and 6 experimentally infected pigs was inoculated into mice which neither became dye-test positive nor showed evidence of cysts of T. gondii in brain smears.
The pooled saliva from 4 experimentally infected pigs failed to produce infection when fed to a dye-test negative pig.
