Failure of a large percentage (97%) of microfilariae to exsheath was correlated with poor vector potential in , while consistent exsheathment (98%) was observed in , an efficient host. In and an intermediate frequency of exsheathment (45–68%) was positively correlated with the proportions of microfilariae reaching the thorax but not with their subsequent development to the infective larval stage.
