Abstract

Summary

Pyrvinium pamoate was used in doses of 10 to 35 mg/kg/day for 3 to 5 days in the treatment of 34 confirmed cases of infection. Follow-up stool examinations averaged in the majority of instances about three per patient during a 2-week period. Twenty-six of the patients had consistently negative stools after one course of treatment; 3 refractory cases were retreated and developed negative stools. The only indications of drug intolerance were abdominal pains in 3 patients. Further exploration of the drug in the therapy of strongyloidiasis is indicated.
