Mr. Henrik Blohm, the author of the book , is to be congratulated for his work. He was very lucky in having the best botanists in the United States at his disposal. The book is excellent!

After a foreword by Heber W. Youngken sen., Professor Emeritus of Pharmacognosy and Materia Medica in the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston, a preface and acknowledgments, Blohm, in the “Introduction”, gives a definition of “poisonous plants”, their classification and the different types of poisons. He describes in his book more than 100 plants belonging to 38 families, beginning with the Pteridophytes. The text is clear and the partly colored illustrations are very good. After a “Glossary” explaining the meaning of the scientific names used in the book, he gives a “Bibliography” with 394 numbers.

Most of the plants mentioned in this book are not limited to Venezuela. For instance, poisonous Pernettya species (p. 74) can be found in high altitudes along the Pan-American highway in Costa Rica, Central America.
