Abstract

This well known work, originally written by Admiral Stitt, and now in its tenth edition, has always been one of the best practical texts upon the subjects of which it treats and the present edition is no exception to the rule. Although Admiral Stitt's name appears upon the title page none of the chapters are written by him so far as the reviewer has been able to ascertain and there is a considerable difference in the quality of the chapters presented by the different authors who have contributed to the book. No less than eight contributors, in addition to Dry. Clough and Branham, have written chapters for this work, so that it is in reality a composite one, so far as the new edition is concerned.

The first six chapters upon the subject of bacteriology are written by Dr. Branham and these chapters are most satisfactory, being well written, up-to-date and thorough.
