The publication of the second edition of this book three years after the appearance of the first edition is a tribute to its excellence and popularity among students of medicine and parasitology and the medical profession. Although within such a short time comparatively few notable advances have been made in this field, these have been added to the text. In addition, the Section on Arthropods of Medical Importance has been improved and somewhat lengthened. The Sections on Protozoa and Helminths by the senior and junior authors respectively reflect the authority which these men hold in their fields. A chapter on leeches has been added to the Section on Helminths. In the Technical Appendix a few diagnostic methods have been added, including the zinc sulphate method for floating the cysts of intestinal protozoa and the eggs of certain worms and additional tests for the diagnosis of leishmaniasis.
