Abstract

This important volume is a companion to the by Professor Neveu-Lemaire, which was published two years ago. (See review, Am. Jour. Trop. Med. vol. 16, pp. 641–642, 1936.) Like its predecessor, this volume bears intrinsic evidence of many years of study and collation of material.

Following a table of contents and a very brief introduction, the author presents his material in four parts and an appendix. The first part deals with the general subject of entomology, in which the field is defined, its importance is justified, its historical background is presented and the respective rôles of accidental, facultative and obligatory parasitism are considered in so far as they concern the Arthropods. Likewise, there is a general presentation of Arthropods as mechanical vectors and obligatory hosts of pathogenic organisms, their use as food and therapeutic agents, their medico-legal importance, their geographical distribution, methods for collection, preparation and study, and nomenclature of the group.
