Abstract

This is the Third Edition of the well known work upon tropical medicine by Drs. Ruge and Mühlens and has been brought well up to date by the authors assisted by Dr. Max zur Verth. There is a very excellent section devoted to tropical hygiene, and a concise and useful chapter upon the examination of the blood and laboratory technique of special value in the study of tropical diseases. The various diseases of the tropics are well considered, and the illustrations, which accompany the descriptions, are very well selected as regards teaching value and most of them are original with the authors and not mere repetitions of illustrations borrowed from other works devoted to the subject.

While the majority of the descriptions of the various diseases of the tropics are up-to-date, it is noted that no mention is made of complement fixation as a diagnostic aid in infection with , of Schöbl's most interesting and important work upon experimental yaws, or of Walker's recent work upon the bacillus of leprosy.
