Abstract

This is the second edition of Dr. Mayer's well known work upon exotic diseases, as he terms what are generally known as tropical diseases. In a comparatively small space this work considers, in a concise and accurate manner, the diseases that are usually classed as “tropical” and it may be stated that the work is the best balanced and practical consideration of the subject in the space covered that has come to the attention of the reviewer. It is accurate, contains the latest advances that have been made in tropical medicine, and gives credit where it is due, regardless of nationality. American investigators are frequently mentioned in the descriptions and are given full credit for their discoveries, and this is also true of workers who have contributed to our knowledge of tropical diseases in other countries than Germany.
