Abstract

Summary

An organism which is apparently an atypical strain of that described by Castallani as was isolated from the patient's sputum. This was confirmed by Castallini (7). The organism produces in animals inoculated intraperitoneally and intrapleurally abscesses at the seat of inoculation, followed by a marked congestion of the lungs. Complement fixation reactions were obtained in the patient and in a rabbit which had been inoculated intravenously. As far as we know this organism has not been isolated from a case of pulmonary infection. Castallani describes it only in digestive cases in the tropical zones.
