Abstract

Dr. Fletcher and Miss Jepps in this report in book form, being No. 19 in the series of reported studies conducted by the Institute for Medical Research, Federated Malay States, have covered with characteristic thoroughness the subject of dysentery in the Federated Malay States.

The publishers too are to be congratulated in their choice of large type and in the artistic covering. The illustrations are clear cut reproductions of well chosen pathological specimens.

The preface by Dr. A. E. Horn, C.M.G., generalizes on steps already taken to insure the health of the laborers and compliments the careful work of the Institute for Medical Research.

The subject matter of the book is divided into seventeen chapters. The objects were especially to ascertain:

  • 1.  The comparative frequency of amoebic and bacillary infection.
  • 2.  The most expedient means of diagnosis in life.
  • 3.  The distinguishing post mortem feature of amoebic or bacillary infection.
