Clinical definitions of melioidosis and inhalation-acquired melioidosis ( infection) are described together with the evidence used to develop these definitions. Such definitions support accurate public health reporting, preparedness planning for deliberate release, design of experimental models, and categorization of naturally acquired melioidosis.
