Notice of Inadvertent Duplicate Publication

Moran et al, 2005. Infection by Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1 is not a risk factor for amebiasis. Am J Trop Med Hyg 73(2): 296–300.

The journal wishes to draw attention to a paper by Moran et al., "Entamoeba histolytica and/or Entamoeba dispar: Infection frequency in HIV+/AIDS patients in Mexico city" published in Experimental Parasitology, that bears close similarity to the above titled article by the same authors published in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. These two articles are nearly identical, and we are therefore compelled to formally declare this as a case of inadvertent duplicate publication.

The article submitted to Experimental Parasitology was received on February 1, 2005 and accepted on March 23, 2005. It was published in the July 2005 issue of Experimental Parasitology on pages 331–334. The article submitted to the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene was first received on October 14, 2003 and accepted on February 8, 2005. It was published in the August 2005 issue of the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Both the authors and the editors of both journals have expressed that there was no intention to knowingly publish the same material twice. The authors have apologized for the error that is in contravention of our instructions to authors and of internationally agreed guidelines.
