Experimental Yaws and Syphilis

Mathew A. Reasoner, Lieutenant Colonel
Medical Corps, United States Army

I. HISTORICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL In 1916, the writer presented a report upon experimental syphilis in the rabbit (1). In the recapitulation of this report will be found some data upon experimental yaws in the rabbit based upon a total of 162 rabbits in 50 generations. No detailed report was made at that time because it was desired to cover some of the points more fully before publication. It was felt that some of the series should be larger to be convincing and that additional strains should be included as a check, there being only one strain in this series. It was not possible at this time to secure other strains and the following year we entered the World War and of course this work was immediately given up and the strain was soon lost.
