A Species of the Cestode Genus Bertiella in Man and the Chimpanzee in Cuba¹

Bertiella mucronata, formerly reported only from the howling monkey of Paraguay, is here reported from the African chimpanzee and from man in Cuba, the writer being indebted to Dr. Alberto Recio for the specimens on which the present description of the parasite is founded and for the data relative to its collection. That the chimpanzee, frequently used for laboratory purposes and for zoological exhibits, harbors a cestode capable of parasitizing man is pointed out as of medical as well as purely scientific interest.
