In Memoriam

Within the last few months this Society has suffered a heavy loss in the death of a man who was one of its proudest boasts.

In a rich and full life Leonard Wood shone in every field on which he trod.

Able and resourceful as an army surgeon he won by his valor the highest distinction that his country can offer to a brave man.

A natural leader of men, his wisdom and force and sound judgment bore him rapidly from the rank of Colonel of Volunteers to that of Major General in the Regular Army and Chief of Staff.

As administrator in Cuba and in the Philippines, he served with equal or even greater distinction. it is unlikely that the precious work of the Yellow Fever Commission in Cuba could have been accomplished without the aid of his quick comprehension and his generous, sympathetic, whole-hearted support.
