Cure of Clonorchiasis by Tartar Emetic

Case history

U. S., a Chinese woman aged thirty-two years, was ordered excluded from landing at this port because of clonorchiasis. Being released under bond for treatment, she was first seen by us on June 23, 1924. Her general history was unimportant, general health was good and physical examination was essentially negative. Urine was normal, Wassermann negative and blood count showed a slight secondary anemia, with 5750 leucocytes, 47 per cent polynuclears, 50 per cent eosinophiles, 2 per cent transitions and no abnormal forms. Her temperature, pulse and respiration were normal. Weight, dressed lightly 94 pounds. Stools constantly showed the presence of clonorchis and trichiuris ova.

In June and July a course of treatment was administered including neo-billon at weekly intervals, six doses as follows: 0.3, 0.3, 0.3, 0.45, 0.45, and 0.6. Her reaction was rather severe to the first two injections, being prevented in the later treatments by use of adrenalin.
