Clara Southmayd Ludlow

Clara Southmayd Ludlow was born at Easton, Pa., December 26, 1852, and died at Washington, D. C., September 28, 1924. She received the degree of Bachelor of Science from the Mississippi Agricultural College in 1900 and Master of Science in 1901. The degree of Ph.D. was conferred upon her in 1908 for her extensive post-graduate work in preventive medicine at the George Washington University. From 1907 to 1909 she was demonstrator and from 1909 to 1911 instructor in histology and embryology at George Washington University. The lectures on medical entomology at the Army Medical School were delivered by Dr. Ludlow from 1904 to 1910 after some twenty-five years of private research upon the mosquitoes encountered in the different posts of the army. Dr. Ludlow was the entomologist at the Army Medical Museum from 1916 to 1924.
