Notes on the Natural and Cultural Growth of Certain Intestinal Flagellates¹

Sumario: En este artículo el autor hace una reseña histórica tocante a los esfuerzos hechos hasta hoy, por él y otros, para cultivar artificialmente ciertos organismos flagelados del intestino. Dice que los protozoos parasíticos han despertado mucho interés durante los últimos años y que los estudios experimentales que se han hecho han dado por resultado el que se tenga hoy mejor comprensión acerca de esta clase de infecciones. Sin embargo, las investigaciones están en su comienzo y poseen un carácter preliminar. El conocimiento de las relaciones que existen entre los protozoos flagelados del intestino y el organismo huésped aun no se ha esclarecido. Es necesario antes de todo el mejorar los medios de cultivo antes que se pueda conseguir el separarlos en estado puro y asi determinar los diferentes factores relacionados con estas infecciones que aun se desconocen.
