Sera collected following an outbreak of human and equine infection due to the eastern strain of equine encephalomyelitis virus in the province of Monte Cristi in the Dominican Republic showed a high incidence of antibodies in human and equine sera, indicating a high inapparent infection rate. The incidence of antibodies was found to be highest near the seacoast.
