DR. LUIS VARGAS. Indicaciones Medicas Y Sanitarias de Algunos de los Insecticidas Modernos Mas Usuales

Pp. vi plus 92, Frtspc and 19 figs. 8vo Clo. Mexico, D. F., La Prensa Médica Mexicana, 1950

A. D. Hess

In this 92-pate booklet, Dr. Vargas gives recommendations for the use of some of the more common of the modern insecticides in health and sanitation programs concerned with the control of arthropod vectors of disease. As stated in the author's preface, the information has been largely abstracted from publications by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, the National Research Council, and the U. S. Public Health Service. However, it would appear that some of the information is based upon the author's own experiences in the field. For example, the statement that the use of wheelbarrow type sprayers is preferable to the use of knapsack sprayers for applying residual sprays would appear to be based on experiences in Mexico rather than on the general practice in this country.

The first three chapters give general information on the theory of control, historical background, and toxicological properties of the newer insecticides.
