A defined medium has now been developed. A few of the conditions and constituents necessary to successful routine ameba culture in this medium have been studied. Many more considerations remain to be investigated, among them the important contribution of any type of accompanying flora. Final determination of the basic nutritional requirements of Endamoaeba histolytica, even in a defined medium, probably cannot be made until the mechanisms contributing to the growth of E. histolytica by other organisms have been elucidated.
