Bird Malaria

The subject of bird malaria is constantly attracting more attention from malariologists and the present volume is a welcome one, in that it contains under one cover all of the important facts and theories regarding the subject. It embodies the results obtained by numerous observers of the experimental work upon the various species of bird plasmodia which have added so much to our knowledge of many factors controlling malarial infections in man, and describes the exoerythrocytic cycle of the development of the plasmodia of malaria in birds. To the reviewer the chapter upon the species of bird malaria parasites contains matter of the greatest interest, for when he first became interested in malaria but one species of bird plasmodium had been described, but Hewitt states that no less than forty species have now been described, of which he accepts twelve species as valid.
