Virus and Rickettsial Diseases, with Especial Consideration of Their Public Health Significance

A symposium held at the Harvard School for Public Health. Pp. VII, 907. Harvard University Press, Cambridge, Mass., 1940

Chas. F. Craig

This work embodies the contributions presented at a symposium upon virus and rickettsial diseases held at the Harvard School of Public Health from June 12th to June 17th, 1939. As stated in the Preface by the late Hans Zinnser, the purpose of the symposium was "mainly to furnish an opportunity for the presentation and discussion of those problems of infectious disease in which virus agents are involved."

The volume contains papers by Gordon, Zinnser, Mueller, Russell, Robinson, Ross, Eley, Enders, McKhann, Chope, Wesselhoeft, Simmons, Nelson, Drinker, Mote, Kelser, Aycock, Fothergill, Blackfan, Sellards, Wolbach, and Pinkerton and all of the papers are authoritative and valuable. It is obviously impossible for a reviewer to discuss the contributions in detail but suffice it to say that the work, as a whole, is a most valuable summary of our knowledge of the virus and rickettsial infections and a worthy monument to the Harvard School of Public Health which sponsored the volume.
