The Dysenteric Disorders. The Diagnosis and Treatment of Dysentery, Sprue, Colitis and Other Diarrhoeas in General Practice

By PHILIP MANSON-BAHR, C.M.G., D.S.O., F.R.C.P., with an Appendix by W. JOHN MUGGLETON, M.S.M. Pp. I–XIV, 1–613. Williams and Wilkins Co., Baltimore, Md., 1939

Chas. F. Craig

Now and then, one has the pleasure of reviewing a book written by a master of his subject, and such is the work upon "The Dysenteric Disorders" by Dr. Philip Manson-Bahr. It is impossible within the confines of a brief review to adequately summarize this volume but the reviewer believes it is a book that should be in the library of every practising physician and should be read by every student of Medicine. The author's large experience renders the text of the greatest value and, in addition, the literature of the subject is well covered and the author gives credit where due to the work of others. The discussions of bacillary dysentery and of amebiasis are especially outstanding and valuable, and are beautifully illustrated. The Appendix is also well done and should prove useful to the technician. There is also a comprehensive Bibliography and an excellent Index.
