In 1913, Professor Patton and Major Cragg wrote their well-known Textbook of Medical Entomology. The present volume is an entirely new and even more extensive work, written primarily for medical officers and others taking post-graduate work in Tropical Medicine. The authors assume that many of the students are approaching the subject for the first time; the book is, in fact, planned for the course as given at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

The arrangement of the material in the text is that of a course of lectures combined with a manual for the laboratory exercises. Thus there are twenty-eight "meetings" of the class which include some twenty lectures and twenty-seven laboratory periods. The "lectures" in the text are notes or a synopsis of the material on which the actual lecture may be based. The "laboratory meetings" of the text contain numerous excellent drawings made from the specimens exhibited.
