This is the first published volume of the nine volume work upon bacteriology, entitled "A System of Bacteriology," being prepared under the auspices of the Medical Research Council of Great Britain, by about 100 British bacteriologists, each volume to contain approximately 400 pages. Each subject in this System is to be treated by one who is especially qualified and if all of the volumes are as excellent in their contents as the present one, this will undoubtedly be the greatest system of bacteriology yet published in any language.

Volume 3 treats of economic bacteriology, plague, anaerobes, and food poisoning and the list of contributors includes Bulloch, Fildes, Glenny, Henry, Hewlett, O'Brien, Paine, Petrie, Robertson, St. John-Brooks, Savage, Thaysen, Thornton, and Vollum. To the medical bacteriologist the sections treating of plague, gas gangrene, tetanus, and botulism are of the greatest interest and are all most excellent contributions.
