1. Studies were made of 487 sera for antibodies to the VEE virusboth by the hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) and the neutralization(N) tests.
2. Of 344 sera that were negative in the HI testall were negativein the N test. Of 100 sera that exhibitedtiters of 1:80 orhigher in the HI test all neutralized thevirus. Among 43 serawith HI titers of <1:10 to 1:40 therewere 13 that failedto neutralize the virus. Tests on these13 sera indicated thatanother group A virus could have beenresponsible for the HIresults, and in nine instances it wasestablished that the Mayaroor another virus closely relatedto it might have been responsiblefor the production of theVEE HI antibodies of low titer.
