The Epidemiological Field Kit

Donald L. Price
Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D. C.

A new epidemiological field kit was reported at the 1956 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (Price, 1956). In the opinion of the author requests for information on the kit have been numerous enough to warrant publication of the design and its use so that it may be duplicated by other workers.

The basic design is similar to that of a suitcase with outside dimensions of 20 by 183/4 by 8 inches and a carrying handle at the top (Figs. 1 and 2). The kit is constructed of sheet aluminum riveted at the seams. A piano hinge for opening is placed about 5/6 of the way down one side instead of at the bottom, allowing a full 8 by 183/4 inch base (Figs. 1 and 2). The four corners of the base are reinforced with corner trunk brackets.
