Examination Leading to a Certificate in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers' Health

under the auspices of the

American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (ASTMH)

Criteria to Qualify to take the Certification Examination

1. Diploma course or equivalent in tropical medicine at an ASTMH approved site or, until 2001, five years of substantial practice experience in clinical tropical medicine and travelers' health plus 30 hours (once) of continuing medical education in tropical and/or travel medicine.
2. Two months experience working with patients in tropical/developing areas.
3. License to practice medicine in the United States, Canada, or overseas equivalent.

Schools Currently Approved by ASTMH for Their Diploma Course in Clinical Tropical Medicine

Case Western Reserve University

Gorgas Memorial Institute, University of Alabama

Johns Hopkins University

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

Tulane University

Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences

University of Virginia

West Virginia University

It is anticipated that other schools in the United States, Canada and abroad will apply for and will receive accreditation.
