American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene

Directory of International Opportunities

Third Edition: 1996

This edition of the directory is a revised1 and expanded2 version of the second, which was published as a supplement to the Journal in July 1994 and the original which was published in July 1993. Its publication has been delayed for various reasons — from government furloughs and reorganizations to blizzards - which were entirely beyond the control of the Journal or Dr. Goldsmith. It also represents a further attempt to improve the content and format; the changes reflect a desire to broaden the scope of opportunities listed and to make it more complete3. The index has also been expanded and (hopefully) made clearer in this edition.

Furthermore there are discussions about the possibility of making this Directory available through the internet, via the Society's Home Page. Such access would mean that data are updated on a regular and more frequent basis and are therefore more timely.

1 Data for this directory were verified in the fall of 1995. While every attempt has been made to ensure that the entries are correct and complete, it is imperative that persons interested in any of the opportunities listed contact the relevant agency or institution directly.

2 Phone, fax and email listings are for the United States unless otherwise noted. Non-US phone and fax numbers have a country code designated with a "+"; the country code for reaching the United States from abroad is +001. For electronic mail communications from outside the United States the appendix ".us" must be added to an email address. Thus from within the US my email address is ka6z@nih.gov; from abroad it is ka6z@nih.gov.us.

3 There are now over 100 entries and the list may grow in the next edition.
