Final Report on the First use of Puromycin for the Treatment of Sleeping Sickness

Department of Hematology and Protozoology of the Institute of Tropical Medicine, and the Missão de Estudo e Combate à Doença do Sono na Guiné Portuguesa

Of 15 cases of sleeping sickness treated with Puromycin, 5 relapsed and 10 were free of infection, clinically and parasitologically, 25 months after treatment. No other specific drug was administered at any time to any of the 10 patients who did not relapee.
