This is another plate of the Atlas of Diseases now being produced by the Society and is of the high standard of production that has characterized the previous maps. It might be suggested that the expression "Treponematoses" would have been better than "Spirochetal Diseases". The general pattern of Map 1 is moderately accurate as present knowledge goes. The prevalence of yaws in Map 1 is divided into "under 30 per cent" and "one per cent and over" of the population. In Maps 3a, 4a and 5a, it is "under 30 per cent" and "30 per cent and over". It is possible that the data used in these three maps comprised active yaws together with history latent casesthe latter is a very uncertain quantity. The associations drawn in the Maps 3, 4 and 5 might well be more apparent than real. As is pointed out in the epidemiological summary, "the disease is an expression of miserable living conditions". The "Remarks" on the Union of South Africa and Yugoslavia are surprising.
