From the Editor

McWilson Warren, MSPH, Ph.D.

Among the changes suggested by readers for the format of the Journal is the inclusion of short reports, preferably of one printed page (approximately 800 words), two if necessary. This idea has been under consideration for some time, and we believe that such reports have the potential of significantly enhancing the capacity of the Journal to communicate important information to its readers. The purpose of short reports will be to allow authors to submit for consideration important preliminary observations, technique modifications, or data that simply may not warrant publication as a full paper. Because of space constraints, it is suggested that the number of authors, the number and size of figures and tables, and references be limited to the minimum necessary. These papers will not require an abstract or the usual delineation of sections, i.e., introduction, materials and methods, results, etc.
