Treatment of Enterobius Vermicularis Infections with Piperazine1

H. W. Brown AND K. F. Chan
School of Public Health, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University

Piperazine citrate syrup was used in the treatment of 120 patients harboring Enterobius vermicularis with highly effective therapeutic results. Fourteen consecutive days of treatment was more effective than 10 days of therapy or the split 14-day regime consisting of 7 days' treatment, 7 days' rest, followed by another 7 days of therapy. In the dosage employed no side effects or toxicity were encountered.

1 Burroughs, Wellcome and Company, Sharp and Dohme, and Winthrop-Stearns, Inc., kindly furnished the piperazine citrate syrup used in these studies. We wish to thank Dr. Elizabeth Nesbitt of the North Jersey Training School for her cooperation in this study and Miss Mary Jani for her assistance in examining the numerous Scotch tape swabs.
