Trypanosomiasis: a Veterinary Perspective

In the preface, the author promises abundant literature and the book is an excellent source. Like many other publications on trypanosomes the book lags behind the developments in antigenic variation and new experimental and diagnostic techniques. The author has ignored most data on experimental rodent trypanosomiasis which has contributed so much to current knowledge on antigenic variation. Ironically, the author points out that he did not want his book to be "truncated to the size of a pamphlet" so he included data from experimental trypanosomiasis! The indices of authors, subjects, and an extensive alphabetical bibliography are extremely helpful. However, since the book is strongly targeted to the veterinarian looking for quick practical references, perhaps the bibliography should have been organized on a chapter basis to make the search easier.

The "veterinary" aspect is well emphasized, as if to counterbalance the dominance of the human medical aspects emphasized by many journals and books.
