This volume in The Viruses series reviews the Parvoviridae in detail and highlights current research in this relatively new and ever-expanding field. This book is a comprehensive review and every effort has been made to include the most recent references. An addendum by Günter Siegl presents evidence that erythema infectiosum or "fifth disease" may be caused by a human parvovirus, and the appendix lists the recently obtained genome sequences of AAV-2 and the autonomous parvoviruses H-1 and MVM.

This book is a definite "must" for parvovirus researchers and molecular virologists with interests in the field. However, the casual virologist might find the detail and complexity of the parvovirus systems confusing. The book lacks any introductory review and jumps readily into a description of the primary structure of adeno-associated virus DNA. Most chapters contain individual summaries, but no attempt is made to provide a comprehensive summary or "state-of-the-art" conclusions.
