Parasitology, a Global Perspective

This book contains contributions by 30 participants, with topics covering such diverse subjects as the teaching of parasitology, the current status of parasitic diseases, perspectives on research in parasitology, "The New Parasitology," the funding of parasitological research, and several others. Some of these topics will, no doubt, be of interest to parasitologists who might want to refer to the statistics presented or the views held by the participants on the current "state of the art."

It is difficult to determine the precise usefulness of this volume. It was not designed, nor is it suitable, as a text or reference for teaching; neither is it a thorough review of any area of parasitology. Little attention is paid to the emergence of new parasitic diseases or to the continuous extension and shifting of the geographic distribution of known infections. The lack of cohesiveness of the total presentation is understandable in view of the large number of participants and the variety of topics, some of which are discussed very briefly.
