The Eighth International Convocation on Immunology comprised a truly outstanding assemblage of scientists aligned by a common interest in the regulation of the immune response. As such, the participants represented a very broad cross-section of interests, and composed a group well-suited for synergistic interactions and the advancement of concepts within the realm of immunoregulation. The 77 presented papers and abstracts, loosely divided into five categoriesSystematic Immunoregulatory Mechanisms; Mucosal Immunoregulatory Mechanisms; Immune Regulation of Response to Exogenous Agents; Implications in Clinical Disease States; Immunoregulation in Bone Marrow Transplantationrepresent a wide potpourri of subjects. Most articles contain sections reviewing the "state of the art" of the given subject, in addition to presenting studies of the authors themselves.
Members of the Society will find the article by Mahmoud on "Regulation of Pathology and Parasitic Infections" of particular interest. This presentation focuses on granuloma formation and modulation in Schistosoma mansoni and S. japonicum infection, and is extremely clearly presented and provocative.
