In the foreword of this manual, the authors state their intent, "This book is intended as a general guide for nonspecialists who wish to collect and preserve animal parasites that are worth studying. It is not a handbook." The reviewer agrees with this statement.

This manual is a compendium of methodologies deemed useful by the contributors who are experts in various areas of parasitology and therefore include information on the recovery and preservation of a large variety of parasitic animals. The treatment of host examination for recovery of parasites is well done. Importance and method of keeping proper records is well stated. Methods of preservation, storage and preparation of specimens for study are standard proven techniques, presented briefly, but in sufficient detail to be workable. Various methods are presented for each group of parasites, enabling the reader to select a technique to meet a special purpose.
