An abstract or summary may often end with the recommendation that the subject article should be read in its entirety. Few will want to read all of the forty-five articles in this extraordinary volume. Yet there are few who would not read with great interest several, or even most, of them if he would read any at all.

In a foreword the Editor of this unique volume, Elizabeth U. Canning, observes that Professor Garnham's "greatness lies as much with his enthusiasm for other people's research and encouragement for the young as with his own successes." And his students and research associates are so numerous that "only a handful could be invited to contribute to this volume." Among those privileged to be invited are internationally well known malariologists and world leaders in numerous different fields of research—on trypanosomes, Leishmania, Toxoplasma, Cryptosporidium, microsporidia, Entopolypoides, Babesia, haemogregarines, Hepatocystis, Monocystis, and sarcosporidia. Several of the articles are on vectors, including one on snails (classification of the subfamily Bulininae), a few on viruses (equine encephalitis) and helminths (hookworms, zoonoses).
