This book represents the postconference revision of scientific papers on babesiosis delivered at the International Conference on Malaria and Babesiosis in Mexico City in the spring of 1979. For this reason, the majority of the contributors are from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois and their associates in Central and South America collected under the aegis of the Rockefeller Foundation and the Agency for International Development. The book consists of 18 chapters discussing the global importance of the disease, the morphology of the parasite both in the vertebrate and the tick, biochemical and antigenic analyses of parasites grown in vivo and in vitro, pathological and immunological changes associated with the disease, and techniques of immunization. In addition, there are four appendices dealing with neglected diseases of livestock and comments of two contributors concerning the prospects for antibabesial vaccines. There is an adequate index which is well cross-referenced.
